Curriculum Outline

Global Thinkers programme covers the following key aspects:

News Update

A 10-minute update on breaking news or significant happenings around the world in the past week. This serves as a way to help the students stay informed with world news, and provides a platform for them to discuss about these current affairs.

Global Issues

Sustainable Development Goals

We incorporate the teaching of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our curriculum. SDGs are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, by addressing challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, peace and justice. (2) Cultivate High Order Critical Thinking Skills

Critical Thinking

Teaching children to become Critical Thinkers is increasingly recognised as an immediate goal of education. Studies show that students who were given critical thinking lessons made statistically significant improvements in language comprehension, inventive thinking and IQ (Herrnstein et al 1986).

Critical thinking is not something that happen as a by-product of our everyday education.

It requires very deliberate kind of instructions. Students need to be able to identify critical thinking skills, define them and apply them. (Diane Halpern, psychologist)

Critical Thinking Training Methods

In Global Thinkers classes, the students are taught and challenged to think critically.

Here are some of the critical thinking concepts taught:

Correlation vs Causation

Cognitive Biases

Logical Fallacies

Conscious vs Subconscious Mind

Lateral Thinking

Information vs Perspective

Students are coached on how to define and identify these critical thinking concepts, and engage in various activities to help them hone their critical thinking skills. This helps improve their ability to analyse and evaluate arguments presented by others and construct their own persuasive arguments. They will also learn how to apply deductive and inductive standards for assessing arguments and how to detect and avoid fallacies.

(3) Develop  the ability to communicate ideas effectively & persuasively

Persuasive Speaking

The ability to communicate effectively is one of the most important life skills to learn. A student who is good at communicating verbally often perform better academically. Good communication skills are listed  as one of the most desirable skills on nearly every job specification.

Communication skills can be developed and refined with practice. Each communication skill, such as how to give a good presentation or impromptus speech, needs to be explicitly taught in order to equip a learner with the skills to be an Effective Communicator.

Effective Communication Training Methods

Global Thinkers programme is designed to ease students into speaking, presenting and debating. Where debate places emphasis on a sharper, more confrontational manner of presentation, Global Thinkers hones in on more ‘real world’ applications, such as individual/group presentations, impromptu speeches, and extemporaneous speaking. Students are trained in a structured manner to construct deductive arguments, learn how to read the audience, create strong, persuasive speeches, and articulate their own thoughts.
